Initial Investigation Leads to Further Questions
The New Jersey State Police released preliminary details of the investigation into the accident. The report indicates that the crash took place at the intersection of Tranquility Court and North Firelane Road.
The UPS truck was traveling south on Tranquility Court, approaching the intersection of North Firelane Road. That is when a teenager operating a Talaria electric dirt bike was traveling east on North Firelane Road.
The front of the e-bike struck the right rear tire of the UPS truck. As a result, the driver of the e-bike was thrown from the vehicle. That teen lost their life in the accident. There was no initial release of the age of the e-bike rider, and no other injuries were reported.
Police did not confirm who was at fault in the accident, and further investigation was underway to clarify that information. UPS issued a statement indicating they were cooperating with the police.
A new law states that e-bike riders must be at least 15 years old as of July. Riders will also need to obtain an e-bike license or permit or have a valid driver’s license.
