Early Morning Truck Accident
News helicopters reported that a tractor-trailer overturned in the southbound ramp near Exit 48 for Ellis Mill Road in Glassboro at about 4:43 am. The incident closed numerous southbound lanes, including the ramp, for several hours. It wouldn’t be until around 7:30 am before one of the closed lanes opened up.
Limited information about what occurred was provided. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not report injuries but was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. Police did not release information on the cause of the accident.
Common Reasons Truck Accidents Happen
Tractor-trailer trucks are highly dangerous vehicles. Not only can they weigh over 80,000 pounds and travel at 60 miles per hour or more, but their drivers are often tired. Trucking regulation violations for hours of service, poorly maintained vehicles, and cargo securing are all common reasons for these accidents to happen. Sometimes drivers lose control due to road conditions or driver impairment. Reckless driving is also a factor in some accidents.
