Police Gather Evidence to Support Claims
According to police reports from the initial investigation, a 2015 Honda CR-V was traveling westbound along Lake Avenue. It entered the intersection when the light was red. At that time, a Honda crossed the northbound lanes of Route 42 before entering the southbound lanes. That’s when it collided with a 2019 white Mercedes-Benz E450 driven by a third driver. This vehicle had the green traffic signal.
The collision caused the Honda to rotate and then strike a guardrail along the southwest corner of the accident. The Mercedes spun as well and came to rest facing north in the southbound lanes. The front-seat passenger was trapped in the vehicle. The fire department was able to remove that person and transported them to Cooper University Hospital’s Trauma Center. That person died the next day.
Both drivers were taken to Jefferson Washington Township Hospital for care. It was not immediately clear their condition. Police from Monroe Township are investigating the accident.
