Driver Flees Scene
Police stated that a gray 2007 Ford Escape broke down in the Nicetown neighborhood of Philadelphia, and the driver was trying to jumpstart it. Another person driving a gray 2017 Subaru Forester was trying to help in the process.
The two vehicles were positioned to allow for the jumpstart, but then a gray 2004 Honda Pilot traveling westbound on West Hunting Park Avenue struck the Ford Escape. The impact caused the Ford Escape to move forward and strike the Subaru Forester. The driver of the Escape was between the two vehicles at the time. That person was struck as a result of the secondary impact and sustained critical injuries.
The driver of the Honda Pilot then fled the scene of the accident. Police later identified the hit-and-run driver. The victim suffered severe upper body and head trauma and died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Charges are pending against the hit-and-run driver.
