What Happened on Route 30 in Coatesville?
The roadway was shut down due to a report of an accident involving a semi-truck and three vehicles. The incident happened in the westbound lanes along the Coatesville-Downingtown Bypass. At one point, the highway was closed in both directions.
Route 30 was first closed down right after the crash happened at about 8 pm. The closures lasted through the night. Police reported that the crash involved four total vehicles. News cameras captured images of a white semi truck on the side of the road, having crashed through the guardrail and plowing into a wooded area.
News helicopters show another vehicle flipped over on top of the very front end of the semi-truck, with its wheels visible from the sky. Later, a PennDOT spokesperson stated that a contractor's vehicle was struck during the crash. There was clear evidence of roadwork and construction signs throughout the area, many strewn. Police have confirmed at least one person died, but no immediate details were available.
