According to reports, officers stopped the vehicle just prior to midnight. They ordered a person in the backseat of the vehicle to get out of the car. The police were then speaking to the driver outside of the vehicle. That is when the backseat passenger climbed into the driver’s seat and sped away.
Police found the car several miles from the initial traffic stop in Elk Township. It crashed into a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
