Investigating a Pedestrian Accident
Local rescuers were called to the scene of a crash at an intersection along Jersey Shore Road. The incident occurred near the intersection of Jerome and Winchester avenues. Calls for help came in at about 7:23 pm. The Margate City Police Department and Fire Department's ambulance and medic teams arrived on the scene.
Initial investigations show the driver of the vehicle was turning left from Jerome Avenue onto Winchester Avenue. That is when the elderly person was crossing the southbound lanes. The pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time. The driver, also elderly, was identified and remained at the scene. A full investigation is underway to determine if charges will be filed. The victim was taken to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center for treatment. They are said to be in stable but still critical condition.
Pedestrian Accidents Are Avoidable
Left-hand turns are some of the most dangerous. Drivers who fail to look for pedestrians, run red lights, or are distracted can easily strike a person who has the right of way in the intersection. These accidents cause devastating injuries and losses.
