Initial Details Show Risks Involved
Data shared by authorities indicates that the driver of a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country was operating east on Route 40 at the time of the incident. The teen rider of the e-bike was traveling along the lane shoulder. For some reason, the teen rider moved from the shoulder to the eastbound lane of travel near Walmart Drive.
That is when the e-bike collided with the vehicle. The Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad was called to the scene of the accident. They took the teen e-bike rider to the Hamilton Mall parking lot, and they were later airlifted to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus by the New Jersey State Police Medevac Helicopter.
The driver was not issued a traffic summons for the involvement. The crash was still being investigated. The condition of the e-bike rider was not immediately shared. It is important to note that the rider was under the age of the new e-bike law that requires all riders to be at least 15.
