It is unknown what caused the driver to crash into the tree or whether any other parties were involved. Investigators were trying to piece together information for several hours.
Why Drivers Strike Trees
Accidents like this happen often for multiple reasons. In the middle of the night like this, the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel for a moment. They may have been distracted, looked up, and then swerved out of the way of an oncoming vehicle. Other times, a driver may suffer a medical emergency, or another vehicle may cause the driver to go off the road. Police will consider a variety of strategies to determine what happened.
