A crash occurred in the 22nd District of Philadelphia at around 2:02 pm on a Sunday. According to initial reports, a 2006 black Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound along Girard Avenue. That is also when two pedestrians began crossing the roadway mid-block (outside a crosswalk).
Authorities say the driver tried to avoid the pedestrians by veering into the oncoming lane of traffic. However, they still struck a pedestrian. The second pedestrian was then struck by the vehicle’s front passenger side wheel and along the passenger side of the car. Actions After the Incident
Police say the driver immediately stopped and called 911 right after the crash. One of the pedestrians suffered severe head trauma and was taken by medics to Temple University Hospital, but later died from their injuries. The other pedestrian was also taken to Temple with multiple injuries, but was in stable condition.
Police are still investigating to determine if the driver acted appropriately.
When Are Pedestrians At Fault
There are situations where pedestrians can be at fault in an accident like this, especially if the driver had enough time to react to the pedestrians in the roadway to avoid striking them. It is unclear whether there was enough time to do that here. A full investigation will be critical.
