Investigating the Complexities of These Cases
The news reports indicate that three juveniles were riding their bikes along Meyer Avenue. That is when an adult driver followed the bike riders with their Jeep. The driver got out of the SUV at one point to confront the victim about allegedly stealing the bike just before the crash occurred. The driver drove to the bottom of the street, crossed the center lane, and struck the bike rider who was on the sidewalk at the time.
The bike rider was thrown about 95 feet. First responders got the victim to the hospital and arrested the driver, who remained at the scene. Police say the driver may be facing attempted murder, aggravated assault by vehicle, and homicide by vehicle. The victim underwent emergency surgery and was placed on a ventilator to give their brain time to heal. It is uncertain the extent of the damage, though the victim suffered a traumatic brain injury resulting in bleeding and swelling.
