The Devastating Accident Was a Single-Vehicle Crash
When police arrived at the scene, they learned a Nissan Maxima had just exited Interstate 95 South onto Columbus Boulevard. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the curb. That caused the vehicle to go airborne before landing on the passenger side.
There were six teenagers in the vehicle at the time. The driver was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. One of the teenagers died at the scene. Others were in stable to critical condition. Several of the occupants had to be extracted from the vehicle by emergency crews.
Investigators are still looking into what happened. It is not clear if speed, alcohol, drugs, or other factors played a role in the wreck.
