Driver Strikes Child and Flees
The mother of the victim is asking for the driver in the hit-and-run accident to come forward after a vehicle struck the child on Tuesday evening. The accident happened at the 3200 block of Germantown Avenue at around 8:30 pm. The vehicle was traveling northbound when it struck the child close to Westmoreland Street. It then immediately fled the scene.
The mother reported the child was standing near the corner with siblings and friends when the vehicle approached. Witnesses reported that the driver was swerving as it came down Germantown towards Allegheny. It then hit the child and a pole. The child was thrown from the sidewalk into the middle of the street, suffering a broken leg and significant internal bleeding.
The crash happened close to the area school. The stretch of road does not have speed cameras like area streets. The latest information from the police department is that they are still using surveillance video and witness statements to track down the person at fault.
