Uncovering What Happened
Initial information from police shows that a gray Mazda was driven into the side of the Pennbrook Station Apartment building around 4:05 pm. Montgomery County Public Safety teams arrived on scene to find one person trapped in the vehicle. The person living in the apartment was not at home.
It is not clear how many people were in the vehicle at the time. However, EMS was caring for at least one person. Images from news reports show the entire vehicle was inside the structure of the apartment. A large hole in the wall with broken windows was evident. Police did not say what could have caused the accident to occur. They were still investigating.
How Drivers Strike Buildings
Car accidents like these may happen when a driver falls asleep behind the wheel or becomes distracted and fails to make a turn properly. In some situations, drivers overcorrect after a sudden jolt of being woken up or alerted. In other cases, medical emergencies cause these accidents.
