Police Save Driver
When police units arrived on the scene, they saw the gray pickup truck about 500 feet from the shoreline. It was already partially submerged. The officers saw someone in the truck, and several officers waded into the river to pull the driver out. The driver was unconscious behind the wheel in the driver’s seat. They could not open the doors due to the water pressure.
Police officers broke the truck's window and extracted the driver. However, as soon as they did so, the vehicle lost buoyancy and sank to the bottom of the river, where it became fully submerged. That is about 10 feet of water, with some areas deeper. At least one officer reported non-life-threatening injuries from the rescue.
The driver in this accident was cited for driving while intoxicated. Additional charges may be applied. It is not clear if the driver suffered any injuries as a result of the accident.
