A hit-and-run crash took place at the intersection of 33rd and Market Street in the University City section of West Philadelphia. The accident resulted in the pedestrian being struck and killed. The driver fled the scene of the accident, and police were looking for them.
According to initial reports, the person was walking with three coworkers at the time of the accident. They were crossing Market Street at around 4:30 a.m. That is when a vehicle that was said to have been traveling at a high rate of speed struck the pedestrian. The driver was operating at such a high rate of speed that the pedestrian was thrown several hundred feet. They reported that there was so much force that the victim was launched out of their sneakers as a result.
The driver sped away towards 30th Street Station while the pedestrian died at a local hospital. However, because of the witnesses and local surveillance cameras, police were able to determine the vehicle involved as a silver Chrysler 300 and later recovered the vehicle near the intersection of 34th and Race streets. At the time of the news report, there was no information on whether the police knew who the driver was or if any arrests were expected.
