A terrifying accident took place in Middle Township on Saturday. According to police, a Nissan Versa was involved in a head-on collision with a Jitney bus. The accident caused the driver to get caught in the car. A fire then started.

Police report that good Samaritans rushed to put out the car fire. Dispatchers received frantic calls from numerous parties at around 6 p.m., noting that the driver was trapped in the vehicle. A driver passing by heard that the car was on fire, pulled over, and grabbed their fire extinguisher from the bus to put the fire out. Several others rushed to the scene to offer help as well.

The driver was airlifted to the hospital. It is not clear if the driver’s injuries were life-threatening at the initial report. No one on the Jitney bus was hurt in the accident.

Police Are Investigating the Cause

Police did not provide a definitive answer about what happened in the accident or who was at fault. However, the fire chief responding to the scene said that if the fire had not been put out so quickly, the driver in the car would not have survived.
