Person Killed by SEPTA Train at Olney Transit Center

A person was struck by a SEPTA train in North Philadelphia recently. The incident took place near the Olney Transit Center. Very little information was provided by police or the SEPTA leadership.

What is known is that the person was walking between rail cars at the Olney Transit Center on a Tuesday afternoon at the time of the incident. It is not clear why the person was in that location. However, they fell onto the tracks. That is when a passing SEPTA vehicle ran the victim over. The person died at the scene of the accident. The incident closed down the SEPTA service for about two hours while police investigated.

Fault in SEPTA Accidents

It is clear that the victim was likely where they were not allowed to be, but it is critical to gather more information to understand why this occurred. Specifically, did the transit system take enough steps to warn of the dangers and to make it challenging, if not impossible, for someone to walk along these areas and put themselves at risk? If the victim was a child, a person who could not understand the risks, or even intoxicated and unable to understand what they were doing, these types of preventive measures aim to keep others safe.

Families must try to piece things together with so many unknowns to learn what happened. Whether you are the victim or the family, seek a consultation with our SEPTA accident attorneys at Kwartler Manus to learn more about your rights.
