A jogger out for a run lost their life after a car struck them. The accident happened in Newfield, New Jersey. Police stated the driver struck the jogger in broad daylight before fleeing the scene in Gloucester County. The incident occurred around 8:10 a.m. After leaving the scene, the driver second-guessed themselves and, 20 minutes later, called 911 to report the accident.
The jogger died at the scene of the accident. What police believe occurred was that the driver, who was traveling south on Madison Avenue, struck the victim near Dalton Avenue. The jogger was moving south on Madison Avenue at the time of the crash. Not until just before 8:30 a.m. did the driver call the police to report that he had been involved in an accident on the 300 block of Catawba Avenue.
The driver was taken into custody and was charged with a summons for leaving the scene of an accident. Additional charges could be applied.
