A pedestrian lost their life while crossing the street in Cherry Hill, according to news reports. Reports indicate that the pedestrian was hit by a vehicle while crossing Haddonfield Road near Yale Avenue at about 6:41 p.m. The driver stopped and remained at the scene.
The Cherry Hill Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating what occurred. The driver of the vehicle was not charged with a crime at that time. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office was investigating for additional insight.
When Is a Driver At Fault When a Pedestrian Is Hit?
The investigation will center around why the driver did not see the pedestrian. It is not clear if the pedestrian in this accident was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident. However, drivers have the responsibility to do everything they can to avoid striking a person. If the person ran out into the middle of the street unannounced, that may not be possible. In most other cases, the driver is at fault.
Some pedestrian accidents occur because a driver fails to pay attention to the roadway, perhaps because they were distracted or fatigued. Intoxication can be a factor in some situations. Reckless driving, including speeding, is a common factor in these types of accidents as well.
