Police reports indicate that a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the Kensington section of Philadelphia at around 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday. The victim was struck by a driver who then fled the scene along the 1800 block of East Allegheny Avenue.

When rescuers arrived at the location, they found the victim unresponsive in the roadway with significant head trauma. The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital and died from the injuries.

Police are investigating the accident. At the initial news report release, they had not identified the driver and did not release the name of the victim involved. They are asking for public support in locating information or the other party involved.

Why Drivers Hit and Skip

The law makes it clear. If you are involved in an accident involving injury or significant damage to a vehicle, you must wait for the police to arrive before leaving. Even if there is no injury or damage, drivers must stop. Hit and skip accidents happen for various reasons.

In some situations, drivers panic and flee as a result. There are times when the driver has no idea what happened because they were distracted at the time. Intoxication and fatigue also play a role in these accidents. Drivers who have had a few drinks are likely to flee to avoid the risk of serious charges.
