Police and fire crews closed down a portion of Route 130 in Bordentown on a recent afternoon. Though they did not state what caused it to happen, law enforcement reported that there were wire hazards present.

According to the Consolidated Fire Association’s Facebook page, Route 130 was closed in both directions at around 2:40 p.m. on a Thursday. The shutdown spanned from Dunns Mill Road to Burlington Street.

Determining the Cause of Accidents

Though there are various reasons why wires may be down and across the street, the incident is clearly dangerous and requires the shutdown. In some situations, such an incident is an unpreventable accident, such as a lightning strike or other weather event. If the wires were to have fallen after a person struck the poles in a car accident, the at-fault driver could be responsible for any injuries caused to others at the time.

Another scenario could include the city or utility company responsible for maintaining those lines being found responsible for damages if they failed to maintain the lines. This could apply if they knew of the risk and failed to take action.

We do not know what caused the wires to be across the street in this situation, as initial releases did not provide that data. However, in situations like this, if you are hurt due to the mistakes of others, even utility companies, it is beneficial to seek out a legal team to represent you. At Kwarlter Manus, we would be happy to offer a free consultation.
