A person suffered injuries after being struck by a light rail vehicle at the Cinnaminson Station, according to the New Jersey Transit. The incident took place at 7:10 a.m.

Initial reports indicate the light rail vehicle left the Trenton Transit Center at about 6:27 a.m. It was supposed to arrive at the Walter Rand Transportation Center at 7:34 a.m. Instead, the River LINE light rail vehicle struck and hurt a person. That person was then taken to a nearby hospital. There were no injuries reported to the about 40 people on board the vehicle or the operator. The New Jersey Transit Police are investigating the accident.

Why People Are Struck by Light Rail Vehicles

Walking along the light rail lines is not legal and can be highly dangerous. There is no insight into why the person was walking in this area. Other reasons may include looking for a shortcut. It may be possible that the train operator made a mistake, or the pedestrian was not paying attention to signals and no trespassing signs. Other issues include track concerns, system design failures, and failure to yield the right of way.
