A pedestrian is suffering from critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Galloway late in the evening on a Tuesday night. The accident occurred near South Pomona Road and Langley Avenue at approximately 11:10 p.m. That is when rescuers found a victim lying in the roadway on the southbound lane.

Why Pedestrian Accidents Happen

Galloway Township, like many other cities in New Jersey, can be a safe place to walk, but accidents happen nearly every day throughout the state as the direct result of distracted drivers, speeding drivers, or poorly lit roadways. When they happen, the risk of serious injuries, catastrophic injuries, and death is very high.

To determine the cause of an accident, police will begin an investigation to gather as much information as possible at the scene. In this particular case, the driver stopped at the time of the incident and was able to be questioned. Police have not released information about what caused the accident. What they did learn is that the pedestrian was walking in the middle of the road, moving towards Langley Avenue.

That information may help the police determine if the driver should have seen the victim, if they had enough time to react, or if the victim is partially at fault.
