Details of the Ocean County Crash
When police arrived at the scene, they found a 2014 Lincoln MKX in the eastbound lane with significant front-end damage. A 2016 Nissan Rogue, also with significant front-end damage, was located on the shoulder side of the road, in the snow. The third vehicle was a 2019 Honda Passport, with rear driver’s side damage in the westbound shoulder.
During the investigation, police learned that the Honda and Lincoln were traveling westbound on Route 70, while the Nissan was traveling eastbound. The Honda slowed down to make a right turn onto Beckerville Road, causing the Lincoln to strike the rear driver’s side of the SUV.
The Honda came to rest on the westbound shoulder while the Lincoln crossed over the center line of the roadway and then collided head-on with the Nissan. The Lincoln rotated a full 180 degrees before coming to a stop in the eastbound lane. A fourth vehicle had damage, but it was not involved in the initial accident.
The driver of the Lincoln suffered severe internal injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center, where they died. The Nissan driver also sustained neck and internal injuries and was taken to the hospital. The people in the Honda, including a child, were not hurt.
