Shortly before Noon on Tuesday police and fire personnel from Norristown were dispatched to an accident involving a pedestrian in the area of West Main and Stanbridge streets. Officials said that the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene. Emergency crews arrived to find an unresponsive pedestrian lying in the road.

Officials from Norristown released a statement that in part said the elderly male driver of the vehicle “appeared to have suffered a medical emergency while driving westbound on West Main Street and struck the pedestrian as he crossed within a marked crosswalk.”

Both the driver and the pedestrian were transported to Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital in East Norriton Township, where the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at 12:51 pm. The victim has yet to be identified publicly by the Norristown Police Department, who had the intersection closed for close to three hours to conduct their investigation.
