Officials reported an accident on the Atlantic City Expressway that left two people injured. The single-car accident occurred just before midnight on Friday.
Investigators say a Hyundai sedan veered off the road. The driver was traveling east in Egg Harbor Township at the time of the accident. It is not clear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. However, the damage to the vehicle was significant, and firefighters had to free both the driver and the passenger from the car upon arrival.

Why Single Vehicle Accidents Happen
One of the core steps the police will take is trying to understand why the driver veered off the road. One of the most common reasons for this is driver distraction. A phone call, adjusting the GPS, or otherwise not paying attention to the road. Other factors, especially late at night, could include driver fatigue or impairment.
There is also the possibility that the driver swerved to avoid something in the road, including another car, or suffered a medical emergency that caused them to lose control. Slick conditions could contribute as well.
In all situations, the driver in an accident like this could be accountable for the injuries suffered by all other parties, including their passenger.
