Two young teens crashed their parents’ car early on a Tuesday morning in Washington Township, according to police reports. The two teens, said to have been 13 years old, are said to have taken their parents’ vehicle out for a joyride.
Police were called to the scene of an accident on Covered Bridge Court in Canterbury Mews at around 2:20 a.m. When officers arrived at the location, they found a white SUV parked on Rutland Court that had sustained front-end damage. The police woke up the parents of that vehicle and confirmed what had happened.
Surveillance video of the incident made it clear what happened: the vehicle veered down Haines Mill Drive, crashed into a fence, backed up, and sped away. The vehicle struck a condominium before the drivers went back. The building was inspected by the local building inspector and deemed to be structurally safe, but repairs will be significant and necessary. Police want other neighbors in the area to look for additional damage.
Holding Parents At Fault
In an accident like this, it is likely that the juvenile’s parents will hold responsibility for the losses incurred. However, victims will still need to prove what occurred and what the financial losses are. That can be challenging.
