Circumstances Surrounding the PA Turnpike Crash

The Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, June 29th, for the report of a multi-vehicle crash on the PA Turnpike between the exits for Willow Grove and Fort Washington on the eastbound side.

Witnesses told police that two vehicles seemed to be racing, which is thought to have led to the fatal wreck. The vehicles crashed into the barriers of the highway after hitting them at high speeds. The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced deceased.

A third vehicle, not involved in the street racing, crashed into the already wrecked vehicles. Two people in the third car suffered minor injuries.

There was a slew of debris along the highway, causing other cars to suffer flat tires and other damage to their vehicles until the highway could be cleaned. The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours Sunday morning for the investigation.
