At around 2:50 a.m., a crash occurred along South Broad Street in Landsale Borough. According to police, two teens in a pickup truck were speeding down the street when they slammed into a freight train. Surveillance video of the incident shows the white Chevy truck speeding down the street, heading right from the crossing with the freight train. It was also raining at the time. The video shows the teen driver running a red light, crashing through the train crossing gate, and then striking the train as it was already moving through the intersection.
The vehicle hit the train hard enough to cause one of the trucks on the bottom of the train to become dislodged, but the train did not fall over. The partial derailment closed down the area for some time. Rescuers extricated the two teens from the vehicle, and both were taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition.
Police are investigating to determine why this accident occurred. There was no update as to the condition of the teens.
Fault in an Accident With Teen Drivers
When a teen driver causes an accident with another teen as a passenger, the family members of the passenger have the right to seek financial compensation from the insurance company of the at-fault party. That process is complex and benefits from having a legal team available.
