Backups on the New Jersey Turnpike in South Jersey were caused when drivers had to maneuver around a tractor-trailer. Reports indicate the tractor-trailer overturned on the entrance ramp to the highway at around 5:30 p.m. News helicopters showed footage of the truck lying on its side just off the roadway along the northbound entrance ramp.

The incident happened on the entrance ramp from Route 73 in Mount Laurel. There was no indication of what caused the accident, nor was it known whether anyone was hurt. Police were investigating. Call a Burlington County truck accident lawyer today.

Potential Causes for an Overturned Tractor-Trailer

A truck rollover accident often occurs due to a combination of factors. Because trucks have a high center of gravity, drivers must have enough skill to navigate tight areas with care. A high-speed curve, for example, can cause a truck to topple over when entering the turnpike. There are times when high winds can also cause a truck to overturn, especially if it is not carrying a substantial load at the time.

Cargo in the truck that becomes loose or is no longer stable can also become a risk factor. Truck drivers, especially with limited experience, can lose control when brakes or tires fail. Investigations may show the driver made an error while navigating the roadway, or they may have been tired.
