Falls Township police reported that a man riding a mountain bike at the 200 block of Austin Drive was in a crash. According to reports, the bike was modified to include a gas-powered motor. The rider of the bike struck a garbage can on the roadway. That led to the rider losing control and falling to the ground. The bike came to rest under the front bumper of a parked vehicle.
Police reported the rider suffered significant injuries, but they were expected to be life-threatening. However, the rider is said to have head trauma and fractures. The rider was taken by rescue crews to St. Mary Medical Center for care. There was no update on the rider’s condition. No one else was involved in the accident.
Common Causes of Single-Rider Accidents
When a single rider suffers an injury in an accident like this, it may be due to their mistakes. However, that is not always the case. Bikes like this may also be vulnerable to materials on the ground, from grass clippings to debris, both of which can cause the rider to lose control. Avoiding other drivers or animals could also be the reason such an accident happens.
