Police reported that an Egg Harbor Township man was accused of intentionally running over another person in Pleasantville and then fleeing the scene. The man claimed that the victim intentionally jumped in front of the car and then would not get off the hood after landing there. However, there is both a witness and video that do not support the driver’s story.
Rather, police found the victim lying on North Main Street in the roadway near Loraine Avenue. They received and responded to the call just before 3 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon. That call indicated that there was a man on the hood of a moving vehicle.
Police shared that the driver was found at a nearby residence on Linden Avenue after a passing motorist alerted the officers to the presence of the vehicle. The driver then told police that he was heading east on Reading Avenue when he approached a construction zone. He said the victim told him to turn around and go back to where he came from.
The driver stated he tried to go around the victim, but that the victim jumped in front of the vehicle and eventually landed on the hood. The victim then started recording with his phone and yelling profanities, according to the driver.
Witnesses shared that eventually the victim fell off the car and the driver ran him over, backed up, and then drove over him again, with video showing the driver purposefully striking the victim with his vehicle.
