Man in Wheelchair Dies After Struck by Bus in Philadelphia

A person in a wheelchair was struck by a bus in the University City section of Philadelphia recently. The Peter Pan bus was traveling to Washington, DC when it struck the man in the wheelchair at around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Market Street and Schuylkill Avenue near the 30th Street Station. The man died from his injuries.

Data from the incident shows that the victim was panhandling at the time of the accident in front of the federal building. The bus, which had about 30 people on board, had the right of way through the green light heading north. The bus driver did not see the person in the wheelchair in the middle of traffic. The man was trying to beat traffic to reach the median before he was hit.

Police are investigating the incident to determine if anyone was at fault and to determine the next steps to take. The victim was known in the area.

Bus Accident Cases Can Be Complicated

When a bus accident happens, victims are often facing serious injury and financial loss, but proving that they have the right to compensation can be challenging. It becomes the victim’s responsibility to demonstrate how the bus driver or bus company was negligent.
