Garbage Truck Spill in Falls Township

The southbound lane of Route 13 was closed down in Falls Township recently after a garbage truck suffered a crash. According to reports, the crash happened around 4:24 p.m. when an officer conducting a commercial vehicle inspection along Route 13 northbound watched the garbage truck experience a tire blowout.

The police officer witnessed the driver-side steering tire fail while the vehicle was traveling in the southbound right lane. That caused the garbage truck to swerve into the left lane of traffic, which then forced a Ford F150 pickup truck into a concrete median. The pickup truck continued to slide along the road divider, and the garbage truck scraped against it. That led to the garbage truck’s hydraulic fluid tank being severed, leading to a fluid spill across both southbound lanes.  Police had to close down the right lane for five hours to clean up the slick fluid and remove the vehicles.

The Falls Township police department will conduct a post-crash inspection of the garbage truck to determine if it met all federal and state safety regulations. No one was hurt in the accident.

Truck Regulation Failures Cause Accidents

It is not uncommon for truck accidents to cause serious injuries due to improper maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle. Federal regulations, along with state laws, have very specific rules that all commercial vehicles must follow to keep others safe on the road.
