A crash involving an e-bike took place in South Jersey along Route 9. According to reports, the accident happened in Stafford Township. The e-bike rider was hit by a vehicle at the intersection with Littleworth Road. That vehicle was trying to make a left turn into the intersection on the northbound side of the road.
Limited information was available about what caused the accident or who was to blame. Cooper University Hospital in Camden reports that there has been a significant increase in accidents involving e-bikes, including those causing serious injuries such as traumatic brain injuries and fractures. This is the second crash involving an e-bike in the last year in this particular area.
The victim in this case suffered an injury to the leg and a potential head injury. The victim was flown from the scene’s trauma unit as a result.
What Makes e-Bike Accidents So Challenging
E-bikes operate as bikes on most roadways. That means that riders should flow with the movement of traffic and obey roadway traffic signs and laws. However, many e-bike riders treat their bikes more like pedestrian traffic, crossing at sidewalks and operating against the flow of traffic. This can lead to an increase in accidents.
