Driver Narrowly Escapes Car Before it is Hit by Train

In nearly all situations, a train striking a car leads to fatalities, as most often, the train cannot stop. On a recent Tuesday evening, a report came in to police of an accident at the Pomona Road crossing in Galloway Township, New Jersey. Police found a vehicle mangled by the train, but the driver managed to escape the car after the incident took place.

Police reported that the driver accidentally made a right turn onto the tracks instead of crossing the nearest street, which led to the accident. There were 33 passengers on the train, the New Jersey Transit’s Atlantic City Rail Line. It left the 30th Street Station in Philadelphia about an hour prior on a trip to Atlantic City.

Determining Fault in a Complex Accident

In this type of situation, it is hard to fault the driver for making a mistake or the train operator who could not stop the vehicle. However, it could be important to look at the setup of the intersection to determine if there was enough protection present to prevent a driver from making such a potentially devastating decision to turn into a train’s path.
