A tragedy unfolded along the Atlantic City Expressway in Camden County on an early Friday morning recently. According to reports, a construction worker was run over by a construction truck at about 7:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the AC Expressway just to the east of Exit 38 in Winslow Township.
Details shared indicate that a subcontractor for the South Jersey Transportation Authority was involved. A truck driver backed up to pick up cones and, in doing so, struck a worker who was behind the vehicle. The victim was from Egg Harbor, but police did not identify them by name initially. There is an ongoing investigation.
Liability and Subcontractors
In situations where companies, or even cities, are using subcontractors, it is necessary to determine the safety and overall risks associated with hiring any one party. When accidents happen, if the subcontractor caused the accident, their professional liability insurance should cover the financial losses suffered by the victim. The victim also has the right to seek compensation from any other parties involved to the fullest level allowed under the law.
