Child Killed in 295 Accident That Injured Two Others

Two people, including a child, were in an accident on I-295 in Florence Township recently. Two other people suffered critical injuries. The incident involved two vehicles that collided at around 10:17 p.m. on a Sunday night.

The details from the initial investigation show that a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Hyundai Tucson were both operating northbound on the highway at the time of the accident. At milepost 50.6, the Santa Fe struck the guardrail on the right, causing it to move back into the roadway and strike the Tucson. Both vehicles then ran off the roadway, colliding with several trees.

In this deadly accident, the driver of the Tucson and the 8-year-old passenger in the car with that driver were killed in the incident, and a passenger in that vehicle sustained serious injuries, as did the driver of the Santa Fe.

Uncovering Fault Is Not Simplistic

Police will investigate a case like this to identify all parties at fault. In situations where a driver loses control, they will ultimately need to consider the underlying reason for the loss, such as distraction behind the wheel or intoxication. However, police did not have this information to provide at the time of this news release.
