Car Hits Pedestrian in Wernersville

A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after walking along the 100 block of West Penny Avenue. That is when, for unknown reasons, a car drove up onto the sidewalk and struck the pedestrian. The South Heidelberg Police Department reported that the incident occurred just after 1 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found a westbound vehicle that had crossed into the eastbound lanes, then overcame the curb and struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital but was said to be in stable condition right after the procedure. The driver is cooperating with the police and did not leave the scene. Reconstruction services are working to determine what occurred. Police have not released any information about the potential cause of the accident at this point.

Pedestrians Can Seek Legal Action

Pedestrians struck by vehicles often have serious injuries, including life-threatening injuries if they survive. Most often, the driver of the vehicle is at fault, especially if the pedestrian is on the sidewalk or walking within a crosswalk. Yet, there are many reasons accidents like this can happen. Determining fault is complex, especially if a vehicle malfunction occurred. With so much on the line, it is helpful for victims to have a legal team ready to fight for them, gather evidence, calculate losses, and build a case.
