Police attempted to stop a black Chevrolet Impala near 33rd and Spring Garden in Center City Philadelphia at around 11:30 p.m. after seeing the driver operating the vehicle erratically. The driver fled. Police reported that the vehicle fled down Benjamin Franklin Parkway and then JFK Boulevard before it reached 11th Street.
The driver crashed the car at 11th and Market streets into a SEPTA bus and a parked car. That left the vehicle disabled. Police say the driver tried to squeeze between the parked vehicle and the bus, but got stuck. The driver was pinned in the vehicle.
Police reported they were not chasing the driver at the time of the crash. They did arrest the driver, who had six warrants from various counties throughout the region. The person reportedly has served time in prison, has had numerous theft charges, and has a long history of arrests. The driver now faces charges of DUI, drug possession, and other offenses.
