Rescuers were called to the scene of an accident at 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday after receiving reports that multiple people had been struck by a car. The incident took place in Burlington City, New Jersey.
What police found was that three pedestrians had been hit by a pickup truck. The accident occurred at the intersection of Broad and High Streets. Police were investigating and had not, at the time of the news release, stated what could have caused the driver to strike the pedestrians. There was no update on the condition of the victims. The intersection was shut down for some time as crews worked. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and was said to have been cooperating.
Pedestrian Accidents Create Long-Term Injuries
Even in situations where pedestrians are hit by a slow-moving vehicle, the risk of serious injuries is very high. It is not uncommon for drivers not to see a pedestrian when making a turn, or if there was limited visibility in the crosswalk, that could have been a factor.
Pedestrians often suffer serious injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, complex fractures, road rash, and spinal cord injuries. More so, there is the likelihood that the victim will face serious pain and suffering and may struggle with emotional trauma for some time as well.
Any incident in which a pedestrian is struck by a car or truck warrants having a lawyer investigate the case and provide a clear breakdown of what happened. At Kwartler Manus, our team offers free consultations.
