Bicyclist Killed When Struck by a Truck

Tragedy struck in Southwest Philadelphia when a bike rider was hit by a truck. The rider lost their life as a result. The accident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. on a Thursday. Police stated that the driver of a white Mack truck struck the bicyclist. The truck was turning right from Baltimore Avenue onto 58th Street (Cobbs Creek Parkway). The bike rider was riding along Baltimore Avenue.

The bike rider was struck by the truck and was found by medical crews trapped under the vehicle. The accident occurred at a very busy intersection that locals say is particularly hazardous. The intersection is so dangerous that residents say they have reached out to PennDOT, which has stated that they are working with community leaders to address the safety risks in the area. A comprehensive safety improvement program is likely to lead to construction in the area, according to the state’s department.

Loss of Life and Determining Fault

In a case like this, it is clear that the truck driver was likely at fault for striking the bike rider. Factors like a lack of experience and distraction may have contributed. At the same time, family members of the bike rider may also wonder if the city or state may be responsible for not providing a safe intersection.
