A hit and run accident took place at around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cottman and Brous avenues in Philadelphia. It left a pedestrian dead as the driver fled.
Police stated that they believe a dark colored SUV was traveling eastbound along the 2800 block of Cottman Avenue when a pedestrian was trying to cross the same street from the north side to the south side. The SUV struck the pedestrian and dragged them for several feet. The driver then fled the scene, and police were looking for them. The pedestrian suffered severe injuries to the head, chest, and internal bleeding, resulting in death. A sneaker worn by the victim was found about 200 feet from the incident. That led police to believe that speed was a factor in this accident.
Police were able to release photos of the suspected vehicle, though they are difficult to make out. The driver of the SUV never stopped to check on the victim.
Hit and Run Deaths Are Tragic
When a person dies in a hit and run accident, it can be challenging for families to know what to do next. In a case like this, police will investigate, and they are likely to find the at-fault party. However, families can also seek justice by hiring a wrongful death lawyer to guide them.
