Crash Leads to Barricade Situation in Pottstown

At around 5 p.m. on a weekday, police responded to a vehicle crash that took place at Beech and North Mount Vernon streets in Pottstown. The vehicle driver fled on foot, armed with a .22 caliber gun, and darted behind a home he shared with his parents located on Winding Road. He shot at police from behind the home, injuring one officer in the shoulder. The driver then barricaded himself in the home.

The Montgomery County SWAT team and officers from several departments were called in to the incident. Teams worked to encourage the individual to leave the home, but he refused to do so. He was later shot by police and died of his injuries. The individual had a history of criminal convictions, including assaults, terroristic threats, and illegal gun sales.

Police Continue to Investigate

There is no insight into what caused the initial crash that caused the police to stop the driver. However, if that crash involved other parties and caused damage, it may be critical for those individuals to seek legal guidance.
