Route 322 Closed After Accident Involving Two Trucks

Two trucks were in an accident on Conchester Highway / Route 322 in Upper Chichester. The incident was significant enough to close down the highway for several hours while police investigated and the scene was learned.

Police report that the accident took place at about 4:45 a.m., right at the Market Street ramps. Police believe one of the trucks was traveling eastbound towards Interstate 95 when a second truck struck the first on the ramps heading westbound. That truck was partially over the center line and struck the eastbound vehicle.

There were no injuries from the accident, but one of the truck’s saddle tanks ruptured, causing diesel fuel to spill across the highway. After removing the trucks, crews had to manage the fuel spill, which took even longer. The roadway wasn’t supposed to reopen until around 2pm.
