Police reported that a person lost their life after being involved in a wrong-way car accident in Mount Laurel on the New Jersey Turnpike. The accident took place around 9 p.m. on a Thursday evening.
State Police are not sure how long the driver of the involved SUV had been driving south in the northbound lanes of the toll road. However, the vehicle crashed into a box truck about the halfway point between exits 4 and 5.
The investigation revealed that the driver was traveling south on the Turnpike prior to trying to cross into the northbound lanes. That is when the vehicle struck the box truck. The driver of the SUV lost their life at the accident scene, near milepost 39.6. The truck driver sustained minor injuries
Determining Fault
Police will need to investigate this case to determine why the driver was on the wrong side of the road. This may be due to inexperience or distraction that allowed the driver to enter the wrong lanes. Poor signage could also play a factor. Police will need to investigate the driver’s actions as they tried to move into the other lane of traffic as well. This can indicate the driver may have suffered confusion or was unskilled.
