The Pennsylvania State Police Avondale Barracks reported that troopers were called to the intersection of Irving Drive and West Baltimore Pike in Penn Township. Reports indicated that a vehicle crash occurred, and one person was trapped. When they arrived at the scene, police found that the vehicles involved were two vehicles, one with seven people and the other with a single occupant.
Investigators pieced together initial information that showed that one driver was traveling westbound on West Baltimore Pike before attempting to turn left onto Irving Drive. However, they did so into the direct path of another vehicle traveling eastbound.
Two of the people in the first card had to be taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, and three others were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries. Police are still investigating the incident, and no charges were filed immediately.
Determining Fault in a Left-Hand Turn
In an accident like this, it can be critical to get the timing right. A driver turning left is typically at fault because they failed to have a clear path before proceeding. However, there are situations in which the other driver could be responsible, such as when the vehicle traveling straight is speeding or moving through the intersection against the light.
