Philadelphia Car Crash Leaves 2 Dead

An accident at 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 95 north in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia caused the highway to shut down for several hours. The incident took place just north of the Betsy Ross Bridge.

According to local police, a black Nissan sedan was operating at a high rate of speed on the roadway. As they took a curve, the driver lost control and impacted a concrete barrier and a metal guardrail located on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle continued on until it hit a utility pole. It eventually stopped as it went down the embankment. Both the driver and the passenger of the vehicle died at the scene of the accident.

Utility companies and PennDOT had to come to the location because live wires were down and hanging from the utility pole. That closed down the roadway for a significant amount of time to allow police to investigate. Police are still investigating to determine what caused the driver to lose control.
