Pedestrian Killed in South Heidelberg

A pedestrian trying to cross the often-busy roadway lost their life in the Robesonia Borough, according to the South Heidelberg Township Police Department. The pedestrian was trying to cross at the intersection of West Penn Avenue and South Brooke Street at around 6:20 p.m. That is when a vehicle traveling eastbound struck them.

When responders arrived, they found the victim with critical injuries, but the victim died at the scene, despite the hard work of the Western Berks Emergency Medical Services team that was at the location.

The investigation found that the pedestrian had parked a vehicle on the north side of West Penn Avenue, a busy roadway in the area, and was trying to cross the roadway to meet family members who were on the south side. Witnesses said the pedestrian was hit before entering the eastbound lane. The driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene of the accident. Several other motorists also stopped to provide help.

Police are asking anyone who saw the accident to provide statements. It is an ongoing investigation.

Determining Fault in Pedestrian Accidents

Numerous factors play a role in a fault in an accident like this. If the pedestrian was in a crosswalk, then the driver should have stopped in most situations. If the pedestrian rushed into the roadway, then that may be harder to prove.
